Five MPD Officers fired Following the Death of
Tyre Nichols

The death of Tyre Nichols has resulted in disciplinary action for several Memphis police officers. Nichols, a 22-year-old Black man, was shot and killed by police while standing outside of his home.

According to a statement from the Memphis Police Department, officers were responding to a call about a person with a gun in the area when they encountered Nichols.

The department says that Nichols was armed and refused to comply with officers' commands, leading to the fatal shooting

However, the Nichols family and their attorney have disputed the police department's account of the incident, stating that Tyre was not armed and was not a threat to the officers.

They also claim that the officers did not have their body cameras turned on at the time of the shooting.

As a result of the incident, several officers have been placed on administrative leave and an investigation is being conducted by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

The city of Memphis has also announced plans to review and update its policies on the use of force by police officers.

The community has come together to remember Nichols, with friends and family holding a candlelight vigil in his honor on Saturday evening. Many have taken to social media to express their condolences.
